Photos in Travel + Leisure Mexico

I’m very excited to have completed an assignment on “gourmet New York” for Travel + Leisure Mexico. I visited many markets in NY including Mario Batali’s new Eataly. I also ate, for research and photography purposes only of course: one cheeseplate and a glass of wine at Eataly, plus one gelato and one custard, six oysters from the Lobster Place, three chocolates from Jacques Torres Chocolates, one bowl of pasta from Table Tales, and an undisclosed amount of samples from various vendors. What can I say? It was delicious.

The great American pastime, Mexican Style

In my ever evolving quest to document Mexican immigrant communities in New York, I stumbled across the Sabatina Baseball League, an all-Mexican league playing out of Red Hook in Brooklyn, with an adult division and a youth division. I very much enjoyed spending the day with them, and also very much enjoyed the barbacoa tacos I ate at the Red Hook food trucks afterward. No hot dogs, just tacos.

End of Summer Montauk, Playa, Tulum, Puerto Vallarta, DF

The end of my summer was crammed with a lot of places to see and people to visit. First person, Erika in Montauk….

Next stop was Playa del Carmen as TJ and I explored the Mayan Riviera on our annual August vacation. Here TJ enjoys the rooftop pool at Hotel Basico, below a shot from the restaurant….

TJ ponders climbing a palm tree in Tulum

This shot is my attempt at some night time photography in Tulum, at what turned out to be a clothing optional beach, inspired by the photography of Ben Canales

Visiting old friends in Puerto Vallarta, Victoria swimming

Best birthday present, Diane walking down the beach with a handful of balloons

Another amazing birthday present, declarations of love for your best friend on your new boobs

Next part of the journey took me to Mexico City to visit family. Aldo’s first birthday surrounded by his big sis, brother, and mom….

Next stop San Miguel, Oaxaca??

NEW SITE! (NOT SO) NEW BOOK!

I am very excited to have finally gotten my act together and put up my new website! This new site is a WordPress site with, as you can see, the blog built right in, which I plan to use often. Very exciting. And for those who don’t know, my photographs were featured in a book, a big book! UNO is a book about the food stylings of Enrique Olvera, Chef from Mexico City/my cuñado. It has photos of the restaurant, the plates created by Enrique, and a section on Mexico City. Photographing the city was so incredibly hard for me but it was a great learning experience and what doesn’t kill you (but makes you cry on several occasions) only makes you stronger. Here are images of it and from it, more info can be found under the menu item “In Print.”
